Block Printing

I've been feeling inspired to experiment with some block printing lately. Although it would be a lot of work, I think it would be liberating to rid myself of the keyboard for a while and take control of the printing process.

Society's Kiss

Do stuff. Be clenched, curious. Not waiting for inspiration’s shove or society’s kiss on your forehead.

— Susan Sontag

I love the idea of not waiting for the approval of the masses — or anyone, for that matter — before having the confidence to do whatever it is that makes us happy. The quote above, by writer, filmmaker, teacher, and political activist Susan Sontag, is such a refreshing and eloquent take on the phrasing of this concept. It was featured in a collection of ennobling words by inspiring women over on A Cup of Jo.

Love Lucy

I cured myself of shyness when it finally occurred to me that people didn’t think about me half as much as I gave them credit for. The truth was, nobody gave a damn. Like most teenagers, I was far too self-centered. When I stopped being prisoner to what I worried was others’ opinions of me, I became more confident and free.

— Lucille Ball

From the same collection by A Cup of Jo, this quote by the great Lucille Ball serves as encouragement for all of us — not just teenagers — to free ourselves from the self-imposed prisons we build from what we perceive to be other people's opinions of ourselves. Most of the time, our perceptions are inaccurate and, in any case, why should we limit ourselves based on the fleeting thoughts of those who have no understanding of our lives?

I can't get over the sprinkled placement of tiny rings in this photo :).
