A few days ago, I was browsing Site Inspire for some web design inspiration. One site, in particular, caught my eye. The site, Capitol Couture, is a fashion blog dedicated to looks worn in and inspired by The Hunger Games. The design is minimal and grid-based which allows its main focus to be the beautiful imagery it was built to showcase.
While almost every design element on the site is captivating, the type effect employed on the landing page is especially beautiful. Upon mouse-over, the large type in which the issue name, Chroma Nouveau, is set, explodes into a cascade of delicate flowers. The effect is gorgeous and this interactivity draws visitors into the site and foreshadows the loveliness that awaits.
Animation is carried through to the rest of the site with subtle line graphics located in the header image of each subpage. Upon first entering subpages, these graphics start from nothing and swiftly grow into their full forms.
Making the trip over to Capitol Couture is definitely worth it. If not for the beautifully clean design with unexpected touches of animation, then for the breathtaking costume design that it displays.
